Collection and dataset search are different steps
Supported collection workflows work with identifiers associated with comments and group membership when source conditions and the required permissions allow it. Dataset tools search the authorized data available to your account. A collected identifier does not guarantee that a matching record exists.
This matters when researching group data: results depend on permissions, the source and available records. The product does not promise private-group access or phone numbers for every member.
A workflow you can check
- Define your research purpose and permitted source; check account permissions and platform terms.
- Review the resulting identifiers or import a supported CSV/TXT file that you are entitled to process.
- Choose the authorized datasets and run matching or an available criteria search.
- Inspect matched and unmatched results, then export only the fields needed for the task.
What the results mean
| Result | Interpretation | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| Identifier | An identifier from the supported collection workflow | Permission and source context |
| Matched record | A corresponding entry in an available dataset | Field meaning, freshness and permitted use |
| No match | No corresponding record was found in the selected data | Do not invent missing details or treat it as a confirmed contact |
Keep the research purpose clear
Start with a limited sample before processing a larger identifier file. Keep track of the selected source, fields and unmatched records. A result count alone cannot establish data quality or contact readiness.
These workflows do not imply complete extraction of post or comment text, a general page collector, or access to restricted user information. Review Meta's current rules and use an approved access path for your situation.
Frequently asked questions
Does the tool provide every group member's phone number?+
No. Identifier collection and dataset matching are separate operations, and available matches and fields vary.
Can I use it for private groups?+
The product does not promise access to restricted groups. Use only permitted sources and the access you are entitled to use.
Can I process an existing file?+
Supported batch workflows accept identifier files. Check the format and your right to process the contents before importing.
